How to Put Together a Personal Elevation™ Plan

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I’m am the queen of “winging it.” Or at least, I used to be. Like so many of you, I know what I am and am not good at.

Quick breakdown of my strength zone:

Public Speaking

Writing

Personal Branding

Strategic Planning

Coaching

New Client Pitches

Empowering others

Inspiring and Motivating

Quite honestly, that is about it. Anything that falls outside of that scope, I may as well give to someone else because chances are good that I will jack it up—and that is not an exaggeration.

But on the flip side, what I do well, I do insanely well yet I never nurtured it in a way that I should.

A few years ago, I started to notice a disturbing pattern. If something fell within my gifted and talented skill-set, I did minimal preparation. I waited until the last minute and was constantly winging it. Guess what? It worked. I accomplished my tasks successfully.

Clients hired me. People were pleased with my services. And on a superficial basis, life was good.

Until one day, I got a kick in the face and it completely revolutionized my thinking. I was at a conference and listing to someone I had been following for years. From the moment she took the stage, she owned it. She had the audience on their feet and left us all in a state of awe. Here’s the kicker...I remember when she started. She wasn’t even remotely as skilled as she is now—and we’re not talking that long ago.

At that moment I said to myself, I am playing around. When was the last time I took my core-genius seriously and actually developed a plan around it? When was the last time I looked at my strengths and mapped out a step-by-step blueprint for expanding and stretching my talents?  I’m not talking about traditional business goals, I’m speaking about enhancing and elevating those skills that are going to help you achieve your goals.

Let me ask you, what game plan do you have in place to continuously elevate your skills and talents? I guarantee if you start giving it thought and develop and stick to a plan of implementation, you will be blown away by what you are able to do. I know I was.
